20 traits of an Entrepreneur

July 29, 2008

While leadership and entrepreneurship are not identical, there are many characteristics and traits that are common between an entrepreneur and a leader.

Ken Blanchard has developed a great online tool to help assess one’s entrepreneur traits. The free E-strengths Assessment is free online through August 31, 2008 (retail value $49.95). This assessment is an excellent tool for understanding perceptions about your leadership style by revealing what actually exists. The good news is that most of these traits can be developed.

The assessment is based on this list of traits / attributes of a successful entrepreneur, via Eric Bryant:

  • Resourceful
  • Purposeful
  • Focused
  • Risk-taking
  • Problem-solving
  • Salesmanship-oriented
  • Visionary
  • Optimistic
  • Leadership-oriented
  • Ambitious
  • Innovative
  • Integrity-based
  • Adaptable
  • Communicative
  • Self-motivated
  • Strategic
  • Team-oriented
  • Determined
  • Curious
  • Balanced
