The Next Generation of Asian Americans Reaches Out

February 28, 2008

In the Jan/Feb 2008 issue of REV Magazine, DJ Chuang wrote a brief snapshot of 5 innovative churches being led by next generation Asian American pastors in this article titled, “The Next Generation of Asian Americans Reaches Out: Taking the best of both worlds from their Asian family heritage and their American surroundings, innovative Asian-American pastors are shaping multi-Asian and multi-ethnic churches.” The article can be viewed online or you can download the PDF (click on link first, free registration req’d, then save PDF doc).

How can I download this article? The download above does not seem to work anymore. Thanks.

Arthur, thanks for your interest in the article. I’ve had to fix the download link (apparently it has changed over time).

The other way you can download the PDF is to click on the graphic image to view the document in Scribd’s Flash-powered iPaper viewer, and then click on the “download” icon along the top navigation bar.

Thanks for your suggestion. But, to download you would need to sign up for a new account on Scribd. Is there anyway else we can download without signing up?

Arthur, didn’t realize Scribd required registering for a new account. Here’s a direct link to the PDF – no registration needed. Your comments and feedback about the article is welcomed!

Got the article DJ. Thanks.

I know the article was capturing snapshots of what each church does, but I wanted to see exactly what sorts of ministries the churches are involved in. As an Asian-American I know that God has blessed us with resources beyond measures, especially if we talk about financial resources and education. How are churches tapping into these things to make a difference in other communities that are so unlike the Asian-American community, escpeically in regard to the inner city and low-income communities?

I am also involved in international student ministry and I am coming to grips with the added blessing that being Asian has helped me out tremedously in reaching out to internationals, many whom are not only Asians, but share similar cultural values not commonly seen in other ethnic groups. A dream of mine is to see Asian-American churches see this unique opportunity to reach out to the nations of the world so readily available on our campuses today.

Those are some of my thoughts. I hope that the next generation of Asian-American Christ followers do not squander away what God has given to them. My generation, unfortunately, did.
