resourcing English pastors in Toronto and Canada
February 9, 2009
Dr. Daniel L. Wong (Tyndale University College) has posted a good collection of resources for doing English ministry among Asian Canadians. Particularly, on the web page titled, “Coaching for English Ministry in Chinese Churches,” he lists his ministry experiences and resources, including this paper, “Toward A Theological Foundation for English Ministry in the Canadian Chinese Churches.”
He also coordinates the “English-Speaking Chinese Ministerial” Fellowship ESCM), which is a monthly fellowship for English-speaking ministry leaders in the Toronto area. This year’s theme (2009) is Struggles and Solutions — The Journey Together of English-Speaking Ministry Leaders through Challenges & Opportunities. Their next meeting on March 4th will be on the topic of Live Management,” led by Donna Dong of Inter-Varsity and Dr. Daniel L. Wong.
Do you know of other good resources for those ministering in the Asian Canadian context? Please add a comment and share.

You really move at lightning speed. I only started this page on Feb. 4 and you have already referenced it. This “English Speaking Chinese Ministerial” page comes up first in a Google search. I don’t actually coordinate the group but am part of the planning committee. Those in the area are welcome to join our meetings.
You would be interested to know I have been asked to present a 4 hr. workshop on “The Future Development of 2nd Generation Ministry in Canada”. This is on May 2 in the Toronto area for the Chinese Presbyterian churches in Canada. It is time for this professor to do some more homework!

Here are some more resources for the Asian Canadian Context
Centre for Asian-Canadian Theology & Ministry, Knox College, Toronto (my alma mater for a Th.M.)
http://www.utoronto.ca/knox/pages/Asian%20Centre/asian_centre.htm
Recently there have been a couple of organizations who have ministries to young adults/young careers - http://www.projectcontempo.ca (origins in the Chinese church) and http://www.christiansinmotion.net (origins in the Korean church)
A good resource person is another Californian in Canada, Donna Dong, who serves as Inter-Varsity Canada’s Multi-ethnic/Multicultural Ministry Director. She was the Urbana 06 closing speaker.
